Vineyard

The Stockman's Ridge Vineyard was first planted late in 2004 with Shiraz vines. 2005 saw the planting of paddock C and D in the first week of October consisting of both white and red grapes.

It's our belief that climate and soil should be in harmony for the production of quality wine grapes. The Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Albariño utilises a low trellis and reduced grape spacing requiring each vine to do less work and allow greater control over grape bunches and their quality.

The Tempranillo vines are planted in a tradition Spanish style of 1 meter by 1 meter and pruned to a bush vine while the Shiraz are on a tall traditionally Australian trellis making the most of its vigour.

The vineyard is divided into 3 main paddocks separated by their irrigation requirements:

We have chosen the following clones and root stocks for our vineyard as they fit our soil and climate well for those interested they are:

  • Shiraz PT23 on Richter 99
  • Shiraz 1127
  • Shiraz BVRC30
  • Pinot Gris D1V7
  • Pinot Noir 777
  • Albariño on 1103 Paulson
  • Tempranillo D8V12
